At Oscars International Dublin we like to let our students know what we think are the best things to see and do around Dublin in their free time. Here are three recommendations for this weekend and they are all just a little romantic.

Visit of the weekend – St. Valentine’s Relics, Whitefriar St. Church, Dublin 2

Dublin ain’t Paris or Rome but there is plenty of romance to find here. In fact, Dublin hosts the relics of St. Valentine. Just a few minutes from the school you can visit the shrine to the patron saint of love and maybe take inspiration for your next romantic quest.

Pub of the weekend – The Long Hall, Aungier St., Dublin 2

It’s old, it smells of polish, there’s no music and the barmen wear ties. These were just some of the reasons Rihanna decided to pop in here for a bit of peace and quiet last time she was in Dublin. The Long Hall is just a five-minute stroll from our centre on Dame Street and it serves a great pint of Guinness. Take yourself and your best friend, grab a seat in the window and chat about life as Dublin passes you by. You won’t regret it.

Walk of the Weekend – War Memorial Gardens, Dublin 8

Such a wonderful oasis of calm in the middle of a busy city, the peaceful War Memorial Gardens are situated on the banks of the River Liffey. There are several rowing clubs based here and most of them will be out on the water on Saturdays and Sundays. That only adds to the colour and not the noise. Not too many Dubliners are aware of this place, so it is rarely busy and is a lovely place to spend a bit of quiet time after the few pints in The Long Hall the night before.
