Learning English in Dublin is great fun and one the reasons for that is the city itself. There is always something to do in this small but lively city and that’s why we love it so much. At Oscars International English School Dublin, we let our students know what’s going on in the great city (aka town) and this week we have a look at three events that are happening near Dublin City Centre.

Learning English in Dublin with Oscars INternational English Language School - we recommend checking out the Pride Parade this Saturday

Pride Week – Pride Parade

The first-ever Pride parade took place outside Liberty Hall, three minutes from the school, back in June 1983.

Since the 1990s, there has been a Pride parade in Ireland every summer.

This year’s parade takes place on Saturday, June 29. It starts at 1pm at Parnell Square.

The parade will feature over 150 floats with over 5,000 people. Many believe it to be far more entertaining than the St. Patrick’s Day parade.

From O’Connell Street, the parade turns on to Eden Quay and goes past Liberty Hall before crossing the Liffey at Talbot Memorial Bridge and travelling along City Quay, Lombard Street, Westland Row until it reaches a free outdoor event in Merrion Square.

It promises to be a colourful occasion.

Worth a punt – Lucky’s

Oscars International recommends Lucky's this weekend. A great place for meeting people and learning English in Dublin

We are big fans of The Liberties – a working class part of the city centre that is going through something of a change at the moment. Lucky’s is a relatively new establishment right on Meath St. and appears to be at the heart of that transition. They look to be doing some interesting stuff and it might well be a good place to meet some Irish people and work on learning English in Dublin. They have an outdoor beer garden, good pizza and regular sets by decent DJs. This Thursday, Dublin Digital Radio have their monthly residency, it’s free in and is worth a look.

Open your Mind – PERFECTION, Science Gallery Dublin

Science Gallery at Trinity College Dublin always offers something a little different. It exhibitions are thought-provoking and wonderfully interactive. Their latest offering, PERFECTION, is an interactive exhibition of scientific experimentation and artistic expression. It asks questions about the benefits and disadvantages of perfection and wonders if it even exists – something for Generation Instagram to think about perhaps. One thing that is perfect about this exhibition is the fact that it’s FREE.
