No, you will have one teacher from Monday to Wednesday and a second teacher from Thursday to Friday.
What is the English language focus in class?
Speaking, Reading, Listening, Writing and Grammar/Vocabulary will all be covered in class but, as in all language courses for adults, the focus will be on communicating through English. Consolidation and revision of new language is achieved via in-class activities, and via The Oscars International Online Academy.
What if I think the class is too difficult?
You should come and talk to the Academic team as soon as possible and a class change can be arranged. You should always consult your teacher first with any doubts, as they are the best person to guide you.
What if I think the class is too easy?
Again, you should always consult your teacher first. If, after speaking to your teacher, you still feel that the class is too easy, you should request a class change by 2pm on Wednesday through the ‘Class Change Request form’ on the Malvern House website (under ‘Student Life’ tab). Your request will be reviewed by the Academic Compliance Officer who will consult your teacher about a possible move to a higher level.
What if I would like extra English work?
Students should ask their teacher if they would like any extra exercises/activities. They should also check the online Academy for extra work at each level and consult the school library for reference and support books.
Do I need to buy a course-book for class?
Yes. Each class is assigned a course-book. Students should order this on their first day at school.
• Students studying for 4 weeks or fewer can rent a book for a €35 deposit
• Students studying for 5 weeks or more must buy a book for €35. The maximum number of books students need to buy on a 6 month course is 2.
Are there tests in class?
Yes. There is a test every Monday which assesses one of the four skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking). Also, via The Oscars International Online Academy, you homework is assessed weekly
What if I arrive late to class?
If you arrive more than 15 minutes late for the first half of class, you will be refused entry and have to wait until the second half of class. If you miss one half of class you will not get attendance for that class.
What if I need to be absent for a few days from class?
Please tell The Academic Team / Reception if you are going to be absent from class.
What if I am sick – will I lose attendance?
No – If you present a medical note from a doctor or hospital your absence will be excused officially and you will not lose attendance. Please note that any absence without a medical note will result in a loss of attendance
What happens if I just stop attending class?
Attendance is closely followed by the school. If a student’s attendance falls below 80% a warning is sent to student by email. If a student has not appeared in class for two consecutive weeks the student is contacted by email to tell them they have been removed from class registers. A monthly report is sent to GNIB (Immigration office) with list of all ILEP students with attendance below 60%. Also, a monthly report is sent to GNIB with a list of ILEP students who are no longer able to achieve 85% attendance
Will I lose attendance if I am working?
Yes. We cannot excuse absence from class because of work.
What if I would like to take a holiday?
All IELP students must request holidays in advance of their initial GNIB registration, as GNIB enrollment letters must contain holiday details. Requested holidays may only be for a duration of no more than 1/3 of the time studied prior to the holiday commencing. Holiday requests submitted after GNIB registration cannot be processed.
If a student requires time off die to serious illness or a death in the family, a holiday may be granted at the discretion of the school principal. This request, along with documented evidence, must be submitted to the school.

What is Oscars International Academy?

Oscars International Academy is an online learning platform that assists you with your classes. Every day after class, your teachers will upload the class materials and relevant homework that you can download. In addition, you can view the calendar which will show upcoming events, such as test dates and school closures. Furthermore, you can monitor your test results through your progress diary, which will record your test results and progress test feedback from your teacher.

How do I log into Oscars International Academy?:

Go onto the Malvern House website (oscarsinternational.com) and there is a link on the right-hand side of the page. This will bring you to the Online Academy.

I have forgotten my username. How do I get it?:

Your username is your 6-digit student ID number. This can be found on the top of any letters that you receive from Malvern House. Also, your teacher will be able to tell you your student ID number.

I have forgotten my password. How do I get this?:

Click on the ‘forgot username or password’ link. If you have an email address connected with your account, this will send an email to you instructing you on how to reset your password. Alternatively, you can email academy@scarsinternational.com with your username and request that your password is reset.

How do I change my email address?

When you log into Oscars International Academy, on the left-hand side of the page there is a link called ‘edit profile’. If you click on this, you will be brought to the settings page and you will be able to update your email address.

Can I change my username?

You should not change your username as this identifies you within the school. Without the 6-digit student number, we may not be able to make important changes for you on Oscars International Academy.

When I log in, my classes don’t appear/the wrong classes appear. How do I change this?

If you have recently changed classes, are a new student, or are a returning student, then it may take a day or two to connect you to your class. If, after a day or two, you are still not connected to your correct class, please email academy@scarsinternational.com with your username, the class that is showing on Oscars International Academy and the class that you physically attend. Once this information is received, we will check that is is accurate and make the necessary changes.

My class materials (pdf, homework, etc.) aren’t in the folders. Where can I find them?

The first thing to do is to ask your teacher where the online material is. Perhaps it is in a specific folder. At the end of your classes, teachers upload materials into the specific quarter and into the specific week so it is important to know what week you are on. If you forget, your teacher will be able to tell you.

I have completed a test. Where can I find my results?

When you log into Oscars International Academy, you can view your ‘Progress Diary’. This will hold a record of all your test results for that class. If there are some results missing, please consult with your teacher as maybe you were absent that day.

What happens when I change class?

When you change classes, you also change class on Oscars International Academy. Unfortunately, you cannot be enrolled in classes that you don’t attend so it is advisable that you download the materials (pdf, progress test results, etc.) on a regular basis. When you change classes, you will not have access to the materials from your previous level or the grades from your previous level.

How long will my files be available to me on Moodle?

While a student is in a class physically they will have online access to their class notes, results and diaries for that class. Once a student changes class physically, they will also change classes on Moodle. This means that they no longer have online access to their old class notes, results or diaries. Instead, they have access to their new class’s results, diaries and class notes. We recommend that students download and save anything that they wish to keep from their old class before they move to their new class. Limited access to old results and diaries is available on request (please email academy@malvernhouse.ie). Please note that this service will take up to 10 working days.

Who do I contact if I have technical issues with Oscars International Academy?

If you have any technical problems with Oscars International Academy, please email academy@scarsinternational.com with your username and the problem.
